Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster comes to PS4 this May

0
0

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be making its way to PS4 later this year with no upgrade scheme for those who purchased it on PS3. Praise be to Yevon?

I’m not entirely sure who this release is aimed at. I love the game to bits but I don’t see any reason to upgrade from the PS3 version; it’s a PS2 game at heart, the visuals aren’t going to be noticeably better than they are on PS3.

Other than the tweaked visuals, the newly added features include the ability to switch between the original and remastered soundtracks and, of course, you can cross-save between the PS4, PS3 and Vita versions which launched early last year. There’s also this gorgeous steelbook if you pre-order in Europe, and a desk calender if you live in North America; I’d prefer the calendar myself, even if I won’t have it until almost halfway through the year!

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster launches on PS3 on 15th May in Europe and 12th in North America at £39.99 and $49.99 respectively.

We thought it only right, only necessary, only just, that we recorded just a fraction of that talk, and then hosted it publicly for all the world to see. You’re a part of this world, this whole new world, so if you like Japanese games or other otaku-esque things (you do) strap on in and give us a listen.

Final Fantasy XV Demo Nearing Release

Final Fantasy XV demo is nearing it’s release date alongside Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on the 20th of March. Let’s take a look at new footage from Famitsu and brand new screenshots to get us hyped up.

More footage from Famitsu shows our favourite boy band after some of the enemies. We get to see how your comrades give comments in relation to the situation at hand. For example when Noctis gets injured some of them will comment whether he is alright. Also there is a scene where we get to see Noctis sword shifting mechanic in action, as he transports himself on some metal structures.

Also we get a look at a city and more of camps. We get to see a delicious meal our guys have cooked at the camp site. Apparently our heros can also sleep elsewhere, like a trailer.

Make sure to check out the new screenshots as well.

Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae Review

0
0

The rebranding, the hype, the all-time high expectations. After waiting for almost 9 years we are given a taste of what Final Fantasy XV is all about. What can we say about Final Fantasy XV now that the demo is finally out? Is Square Enix on top of their game when it comes to direction they want the series to take?

As with all good JRPG, the game starts with you waking up. Surprisingly, this time his highness Noctis wakes up in a tent with all of his party in it. Apparently his car broke down so he and his buddies have a bit of time to roam around the countryside and explore. They are out of cash so the first thing to do in order to get their car fixed is to earn some.

Around the countryside and gas station there are wanted posters of Deadeye, a fearsome behemoth that everyone in the area wants dead or captured. Get ready to act as a hunter of sorts as you investigate of this beast’s whereabouts. There is a bit of stealth involved as well and it’s done right considering this is an action JRPG. Some of the mystery of this monster is done quite well and builds enough suspense where when you do get to meet him it succeeds in feeling memorable.

FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE DUSCAE_20150329233350

Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae certainly knows how to wow us with its graphics. Lighting and level of detail makes it one of the most graphically impressive games we’ve seen to date. Objects in the environment cast real time shadows. The lake showcases game’s beautiful reflections. Scenery at night looks really beautiful and screenshots can’t capture its full beauty. Particle effects while using Noctis’s weapons and abilities look quite stunning. As drop ships approach your party in the valley, the grass and bushes along with character clothing will sway in the wind. Even hair has its own physics and will move along with the characters, and quite realistically. Sometimes roaming around the world you’ll stop to marvel at the scenery. Yet, there are times when its 900p resolution and framerate drops can feel a bit disappointing. Square Enix has acknowledged some of these issues and the target resolution for the full game is still 1080p so I hope they have enough time to really work on these issues and deliver on these promises.

The Final Fantasy series is known for its soundtrack, and rightfully so as over the years it has featured some wonderful tracks. This game’s orchestral tracks are quite fitting for a story about a prince amidst a conflict of epic proportions. Sound effects and voice acting are quite good as well. Some of the Japanese voice actors here are some of the most famous in their field of work. And the demo comes with both Japanese and English voice tracks included.

FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE DUSCAE_20150329150013

This is not the first time that combat in the series is in real time, considering that both Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Typo – 0 feature it. Still, this is the first game in the main series to feature it and it is a welcome change from Final Fantasy XIII. Noctis has some unique abilities like warping to high places and in front of enemies. This comes in handy when Noctis is hurt so he can wait to regenerate his health and mana, as when his HP gets to zero points every attack will take a chunk out of maximum health which won’t replenish on its own until the party rests. He can also duck behind rocks and walls to recover.

At the start Noctis already has an arsenal of different swards that each goes into a different slot: Crush, Ravage, Vanquish, Counter and Descend. Each of these determine which sword will be used in a particular situation, for example a sword equipped in a Crush slot is used during initial attack, Descend sword is used when warping to enemies from above etc. This is an interesting mechanic that will probably have more use in a full game.

FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE DUSCAE_20150329170503

Noctis will do a dodge move when you hold down L1 button. There is also a possibility to do a parrying move after dodging the enemy attack. Sometimes targeting enemies can be a bit tricky so you can lock on an enemy by holding down the R1 button and then performing the warp strike move, which warps Noctis in front of the enemy doing an initial strike in the process. Noctis can also preform techniques with his swords that cost MP to use. Dodging and warping also depletes MP. When Noctis is out of MP he falls into Stasis, a state in which he cannot perform these operations, so mana management is quite important.

Roaming around the open world style map there are many wild animals you will encounter. When the encounter starts you will see a red line across the screen, but if you run you can easily avoid the encounter and the line will disappear. This is quite useful as you will know when you are safe. The difficulty spike went a bit crazy in the cave filled with goblins. If you don’t obtain certain phantom sword which gives you an ability that makes a game much easier, you are in for some grinding. Also make sure you bring a lot of antidote with you.

FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE DUSCAE_20150330225322

While refreshing at first combat does have its issues. I had a bit of a problem with controls as locking on some enemies or dodging doesn’t always work. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the always moving camera as enemies jump around all over the place. Still, there is plenty of time for Square Enix to fine tune things and I hope that in the final game issues like that will be non-existent.

The aspects I liked the most about Final Fantasy XV demo is its combat and graphics. Considering this is just a demo of the things to come it is expected of the full game to be more polished, so I hope when the full game comes out we’re in for a treat. If you can’t wait for the full game to get out I think this demo which gives you about 3 to 4 hours of play is worth checking out. Don’t forget that Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae comes alongside first prints of Final Fantasy Type – 0, which we will look into next time.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Review

0
0

After three and a half years western gamers dive into Final Fantasy Type-0, a game that was exclusive to Japanese PSP owners, in a form of HD remaster for both the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. So should you embark on this Final Fantasy?

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is in fact a part of Fabula Nova Crystallis series, just like Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus (renamed to Final Fantasy XV). These games are loosely connected by having similar motives and themes, but ultimately stand on their own. This is the case for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which can be enjoyed without playing the previous games in the series. Everything we need to know is explained in the lengthy opening sequence and makes for a nice start.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD_20150401223242

The game is set in Orience, a land of four nations, each in possession of a special crystal. Crystals mark individual humans as an l’Cie which gives them strength to complete a task they are given, called “Focus”. Each nation has an academy which studies the crystal and serves to protect it. The land is torn apart when the aggressive Militesi Empire of White Tiger Crystal launches an attack on The Dominion of Ruburum and their Vermilion Bird Crystal. This is where our heroes, the Class Zero, come from and as loyal servants to the country and the crystal they are bound to protect themselves and try to steer the war in their favour.

Class Zero consists of fourteen students which you can take into battle. Every student provides a specific play style as each has a unique weapon accompanied by different equipment and magic. Some students wield fairly standard weapons but then there are also some of the more interesting ones. For example, Ace’s weapon is a deck of playing cards, Deuce plays flute offensively and defensively, Trey wields a bow, Cather wields a magic gun and Sice wields her scythe. Each student has a backstory which you can find out along the way as you talk with different characters and by reading in Crystarium, Academeia’s library.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD_20150404224133

Missions in Type-0 are varied and cleverly crafted. They are challenging enough, that you can learn from your mistakes and find a way to get past any obstacle that the game tosses at you. This is where Final Fantasy Type-0 really shines. Each mission will give you an interesting challenge, for example, to destroy plans for a top secret new military mecha. Some missions will carry out on the world map where you will command armies in order to recapture a city.

Before going on a mission you can choose three characters as your main forces and reserve characters that you can call upon if members of your main forces fall in battle. Final Fantasy Type-0 features real time battle system where you can freely switch between your three main characters. You have your normal attack, magical and skill attacks, special group attacks, summons and more. The game offers a great variety to how you can tackle each mission. It gives you a lot of opportunity to experiment and see which play style you like. In case you get stuck mid mission because it can get overwhelming you can abort a mission retaining the experience your characters have acquired.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD_20150403181718

Behind Academeia’s gates is a sanctuary where your soldiers will rest after each mission. This is where you will have time to talk to your fellow cadets and teachers in order to gain items and reveal more of the backstory. Similarly to Persona you will be given a certain amount of time before your next mission so you should use it wisely. Or you could choose to advance the time faster and get straight to your next mission. Academeia feels alive as students go about their daily lives and there are different regular changes all the time so I recommend you definitely check everything out before a next mission.

There is a ton of optional stuff to do in Type-0. Not only is Academeia brimming with life, but also the world map with its different towns which you can visit after you have recaptured them. There are optional Tasks, Expert Trials and many hidden little tasks inside cities which you can do that will give you additional bonuses. In order to traverse these vast distances faster you are given Chocobos to ride, but not for long as each Chocobo escapes after a while. There is even a Chocobo Ranch at Akademeia where you can breed them.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD_20150403140721

There have been many enhancements from the PSP version to get the game to this generation of consoles. The Lighting and game models look vastly improved, though don’t expect this game to look like it was specifically developed for this generation of consoles. Given that this is a PSP game port I think that Square Enix has done a great job. To make the game more accessible there are now difficulty modes added as follows: Cadet (easy mode), Officer (normal), Agito (hard) and Finis (expert). Multiplayer features from the original game have been omitted. Instead you can obtain SPP points, which is like another currency to buy exclusive stuff in the game, by calling backup characters which help you on your missions.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD_20150406022546

The only gripe I had with this game was the game’s camera which can move a bit frenetic when you start playing which is intensified by motion blur effects that have been added. But after a while I got used to it and switching lock on to pressing R1 in the options helped a lot in battles.

The game includes both Japanese and English voice work. Soundtrack and sound effects have also been remastered for the new systems and it fits really great with the theme of the game.

If you are tired of the same old JRPG schemes and want a challenging but rewarding experience, this game is for you. Also if you have been disappointed in the recent Final Fantasy titles give this game a go. If you like tailoring your play style and experimenting this game is like a breath of fresh air. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD has to offer more content then some of the next generation games coming out, so it deserves much more attention.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD launched for the PS4 and Xbox One with a bonus of Final Fantasy XV demo which we have covered previously.

What kind of a gamer doesn’t like E3? Not me, the Pro Gamer? I like E3 in a very Pro way. Unfortunately I can’t make it out this year due to -personal reasons- (please stop spamming my Live Journal about this -.-;;), but here are my predictions as a video!

Final Fantasy VII Remake is Actually Happening

0
0

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a real thing, it turns out. Where does that leave the dud announcement by Square Enix at the PlayStation experience that Final Fantasy VII PC was coming to PlayStation 4? Who knows? More importantly, who cares? A full remake of Final Fantasy VII is really where it’s at. As tricky as it could be to pull off, our hearts are aflutter after watching the trailer. It’s the real deal.

“Play it first on PlayStation 4,” says the trailer — though there is no news on what other consoles it could be released on. For all we know Final Fantasy VII remake could only be PS4 and PC in the end, though it’d be surprising to not see it on Xbox One too.

There’s some serious Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children vibes coming from the Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer. Whether that’s a good or bad thing we’ll leave to you. While the trailer is pretty short, it’s also pretty sleek. This is more than just a HD remaster, this is a full remake. And boy does it look sleek.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster Review

0
0

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster was recently ported to PlayStation 3 and Vita. Now a year later we have a PlayStation 4 version. How does this classic hold up in this eighth generation of consoles?

Shamefully enough I didn’t get to play Final Fantasy X when it was first released, so you can take this review as an insight from a fresh perspective.

Final Fantasy X just has that kind of intriguing story that keeps you constantly on your toes. The characters are likeable and as you get to know them even the characters you didn’t like at first start to grow on you. Yes, even often hated Wakka.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150703002605

The premise revolves around Tidus, a prospective blitzball star player from Zanarkand who gets sucked into chaos caused by an evil dark force called the Sin. After surviving through tortures of Al Bhed, people who speak their made up language, he finds himself in some far off land. Little did he know that his home town was destroyed a thousand years before and he is now actually living in that far future, stranded all alone.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150629182107

The world in Final Fantasy X just seems alive. Places like Beasid village (possible Seaside anagram?) is a place where people seem to do stuff, not just stand around like fools. Progressing the story is done in the way that you spend just enough time in one place and move on so it never gets stale.

Even though the game mostly has linear structure, there is still a lot of exploration as each area is meticulously designed. You have actual towns with shops and people to talk to.

The game is really cinematic for being originally released in 2001 (2002 in Europe). Everything is introduced at just the right time. There are many little cut-scenes throughout your journey that nicely tie everything together.

Battles are quite dynamic for a turn based style Final Fantasy game thanks to characters’ interaction and dialogue. Your teammates are quick to give you advice or to just complain if you do something stupid. You can switch up characters mid-battle, which keeps battles even more dynamic.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150709231426

Each character has their place in battle, but Yuna is quite interesting as she has Summons called Aeons so that you can use their help to take out tough opponents quickly. If knocked out you have to recover your Aeons at a Save Sphere. Do you see a pattern here? In Final Fantasy X everything is sphere shaped. Even the puzzles themselves.

Then there are other colourful characters that make the main cast of the game. Most of the other characters serve as Yuna’s protectors, called Guardians. Lulu, that lovably strange belt-dress lady, has her magic which comes in handy at all times. It helps that her personality and snarky comments make every dialogue that much better. Even Wakka, a goofy captain of the infamously-pathetic Besaid Aurochs, is very useful as he can take out flying enemies with his blitzball.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150704024620

Then there is eternally cool Auron. If you showed a picture of him to aliens I think they would agree that he is so cool it hurts. There’s silent Kimahri, a Ronso – a type of angry humanoid cat, whose duty is to protect Yuna. And of course, a spunky girl Rikku. She is a member of the Al Bhed tribe that helps Tidus in the very beginning.

Even boss battles are quite creative as there are little puzzle segments to them. Sometimes you will have to focus on attacking objects in the background, like a fin out of the ocean. Or powering up a crank in order to knock out a boss.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150709232111

Upgrading is done through the Sphere Grid, which is polarizing feature among the fans. It is an interesting concept, but can be a bit confusing at first. You use spheres, which you acquire in battles, in order to progress your character stats and unlock new skills. Leveling your characters isn’t automatic and you have to use the grid to actually upgrade them, but sometimes this won’t be enough as the skills and stats you can upgrade follow a sphere path.

Like most good old Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy X features a unique mini game in a form of a blitzball, the official number one sport in Spira. You can control active character manually or set it to automatic and choose when to pass, shot or dribble. But most of the time you will be clashing with opposing players and thinking whether to break through them or not. Of course it gets more complicated with trying to learn skills and leveling up your players. You can even recruit new players for your team.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150702223734

Yet another really cool feature is that during your travels you will find Al Bhed language primers, so along the way you can learn it. And then when you replay the game you can load all your collected knowledge and then understand what everyone is saying from the get go. It really is great when there is so much extra content in a game like this.

Final Fantasy X features prerendered backgrounds and a fixed camera angle which can get a bit awkward when you are interacting with some objects in certain scenes. Character models used in this HD Remaster edition are of higher quality than those in the original and the resolution is ramped up to 1080p so everything looks very smooth and crisp.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150702230244

You are given a choice between the original and arranged soundtrack, which is nice for those that want that remastered experience as both are great. Voice acting which is dubbed in English is quite good for 2001, especially when you had this as the norm.

I haven’t even spoken about the Final Fantasy X-2, a sequel that follows Yuna’s adventures, which is also included in this release. But combined with the original this gives you over 200 hours of gameplay.

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster_20150704011911

Did the story hold up after all these years? My answer is a resounding yes. After playing Final Fantasy XIII previously, I was really happy that in Final Fantasy X it is quite refreshing to see a coherent story as I could understand what was happening with the world and the characters. And you can empathize with what they are going through.

If you didn’t get a PS3 or Vita version, PS4 is an ultimate version to get as it has better textures and some improved NPC models. Not to mention better anti-aliasing and frame rate even though it is locked to 30fps. Then there’s cross save ability with both Vita and PS3 versions.

I recommend this title to the fans of the series as well as new players who didn’t get to play the original and want something refreshing in their JRPG routine.

Thanks once again to everyone who banded together to raise the money for me to go to gamescom. you guys wanted your voices heard in the games media in 2015 and thank you for choosing me – Pro Gamer.

Hopefully in the future I would like to attend more of these events and work more closely with my sponsors for cross-promotion branding. I think that together we can make it a reality.

I will be looking into options to allow users to continue to fund and support me, as we cannot continue to bring Kickstarter’s servers down (as we did on the day the first day of funding – June 15th)

Please buy 7-Up Free.

The story will revolve around a brother and sister entering a world of Grimoire, where Final Fantasy characters and monsters live. Namely, on their journey the twins will meet a lot of characters from a cast of previous Final Fantasy games.

The game will feature an adorable chibi artstyle that is sure to appeal even to new and non-Final Fantasy fans. It is coming to Vita and Playstation 4 in 2016.

Final Fantasy VII Remake gameplay trailer revealed

Tonight at PlayStation Experience, Sony and Square Enix revealed that the Final Fantasy VII remake for PS4 will have a new combat system as shown off in a new trailer.

The trailer, as seen below, shows that FFVII will be more of an action-RPG in a similar style to upcoming Final Fantasy XV or the more recent Type-0. It’s still an early build, but it’s looking fantastic and the characters still resemble the lego blocks that they once were on PS1 and PC.

If that wasn’t enough, the PC port of Final Fantasy VII, a port from the PS1 version but with trophies, releases on PS4 today too! I’ll be sure to pick it up soon.

Cloud and Midgar shown off in Super Smash Bros.

Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII was recently announced to be joining the Super Smash Bros. roster, and now his move set and the Midgar stage have been properly shown off.

He’s also releasing in a couple of hours at $5.99 or $6.99 if you want Cloud on both Wii U and 3DS! EU pricing should reflect what other DLC for the game has released at. Watch how he plays below but, for me personally, I’m super excited to get my hands on him and to get back into Smash!

Cloud releases in both Europe and North America in a few hours but Nintendo have warned that a high amount of traffic may make him hard to buy at first, but that you should be able to at some point today.

Lightning X Louis Vuitton

Final Fantasy’s Lightning comes back in a bit of an unexpected package. It seems gaming and fashion have a lot in common. For example seasonal collections remind me of yearly game releases. It all goes hand in hand so why not mix the two.

Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII series is back for a new Louis Vuitton campaign simply titled “Series 4”. It will feature Lightning in various outfits designed by Louis Vuitton and animation by Square Enix’s own Visual Works studio.

The designs shown have already been featured in Spring-Summer 2016 fashion show earlier this year.

This isn’t the first time Square Enix collaborated with world renowned designers as in 2012 whole cast of Final Fantasy XIII characters including Lighting were featured in an ad campaign for Prada.

World of Final Fantasy New Gameplay Video

We have new footage and a lot of new details on World of Final Fantasy, a new cutesy Square Enix title coming out in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Vita.

The video shows our protagonists who find themselves in a forest where we can see a pretty good demonstration of the combat system. The World of Final Fantasy will feature an interesting addition to their ATB (Active Time Battle) system where you can stack your cute chibi characters one on top of another for stat bonuses and various effects. The protagonists will be able to fight both in their chibi and normal forms. Chibi form gives you the ability to mount monsters, like an awesome looking Behemoth or a Magitek Armor.

As you will be able to capture various monsters and use their abilities to solve environmental puzzles, the game seems to be having a bit of a Pokemon vibe, which is good in our book.

After a couple of battles the protagonists face off against adorable Yuna from Final Fantasy X and use Squall from Final Fantasy VIII to finish her off. The load times look a bit sluggish, but it was noted that this will be fixed by the release.

You can watch the whole event here. Also don’t forget to check out the new trailer.

You can see a host of new screenshots and character art in our gallery below.

Square Enix have released a new Final Fantasy Explorers trailer highlighting the ways in which the game is inheriting the massive legacy of the series, from special moves to characters, from regular monsters to full blown summons (or Eidolons as they’re actually called).

As well as the trailer, Square Enix have also created an infographic showing all of the legacy characters you’ll be able to transform into in the game.
