Final Fantasy XII’s Vayne Joins Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

It’s hard not to notice that a few protagonists don’t have their sworn enemy in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, including Final Fantasy XII, XIII, XIV and XV, but now Final Fantasy XII‘s Vayne Carudas Solidor is penned in to be the next playable character for the crossover fighting game.

Final Fantasy XII's Vayne

You can see how Vayne (who will be part of the Vanguard class) plays below and you’ll be able to get your hands on him in the arcades this month, and on PS4 next month. This also marks Vayne’s debut in a Dissidia game.

Which antagonist would you like to see join the roster next? Perhaps Caius from the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy? Livia or Gaius from XIV? Maybe Ardyn or Aranea from XV? Who knows who’ll be next, but there are many exciting possibilities.

As you can see, Noctis makes full use of his warp powers and various weapons, and he looks like he’ll be a tricky, agile player to land hits on. You’ll be able to get your hands on him next week, and he marks the final guest character for Tekken 7. Well, at this time, anyway.

Square Enix has dropped plenty of Kingdom Hearts III news this weekend including a delay until 29th January, 2018 – which isn’t too far away, thankfully – as well as a new English dubbed trailer showcasing Frozen and a meaty look at other worlds, characters and the story.

The trailer only makes me want the game, especially as it’s our best look at the game yet, but alas, we must patiently wait.

Kingdom Hearts III is releasing on 29th January, 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One, and it’ll bring an end to Sora’s 17-year journey. Phew! I’m so excited to finally get my hands on the magic!

Rinoa Heartilly Joins Dissidia Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy VIII’s leading lady Rinoa Heartilly is the next character to join Dissidia Final Fantasy, and she isan addition who is sure to please many fans. She looks fantastic in full HD and will be voiced by wonderful Japanese voice-actress Kana Hawazawa.

You may recognise Kana’s voice from several anime and games including Mayuri from Steins;Gate and Kosaki from Nisekoi, and she’s one of the most prolific voice-actresses in Japan. She’s a great pick for Rinoa who uses her Blaster Edge to keep her opponents at bay, and she can use her limit break Angel Wings to cast magical spells. She isn’t alone either, as her dog Angelo jumps in to help her out with a few attacks of his own!

Rinoa Heartilly comes to Dissidia Final Fantasy late August, and she’s the third of six characters to release as part of the game’s season pass.

A brand new trailer has released showcasing the Monster Hunter: World event which is coming to Final Fantasy XIV which begins later this Summer. Gear, mounts, felynes and a battle against the mighty dragon Rathalos are almost here, but you need to finish Stormblood to play it!

Check out the trailer below, and catch up on Stormblood if you can! I, myself, need to finish it, but I’m doubtful that I’ll be able to partake in the Monster Hunter: World event this time around.

Sink your teeth into this unique collaboration between Square Enix and Capcom when it launches later this Summer. The grisly Behemoth and more is coming to Monster Hunter: World on 2nd August too!

Final Fantasy XIV Companion App is Rolling Out

Square Enix has begun rolling out the official, long-awaited Final Fantasy XIV Companion App for Android and iOS, so now is the time to check your region’s store to see if it’s available! Square Enix warns that there may be some issues due to the huge influx of people signing up right now, though.

xiv companion

The app will allow you to talk with your friends, manage your items, check out what’s on sale on the market board, and plan events. It’s been a long time coming, but it’ll prove to be very helpful. Now, you never have to leave the world of Eorzea! I recommend taking some breaks, though.

This year’s Moonfire Faire is currently live until 26th August too, so you should get on that, too!

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Switch bound. (And PS4 too, but who cares about that).

As though plucked from my very DREAMS, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Switch has been announced! It’s also coming to PS4 as well – but lets face it, who gives a damn about that. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Switch means being played as it was meant to be played – on four small screens.

Originally released on Gamecube back in 2003 (my goodness, that long ago?!) Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was one of the ‘Gameplay Enhanced’ line up – games which used the GBA and Link Cables for four player adventuring. Like Zelda: Four Swords, it was one of the best games that utilised this feature. Often underused (as it meant and gathering everyone together that had all the necessary bits) both Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords were an absolute blast to play.

Check out the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Switch trailer below.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles saw you and three friends heading off on adventures to replenish the power of a crystals protecting your village from a poisonous miasma. Using a smaller crystal, carried by one player, the other players must remain inside the protective bubble, clearing out maps and, ultimately, taking down the boss that caps each level.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Switch

What the game lacked in any worthwhile plot, it made up for with a hugely memorable soundtrack, some brilliant bosses, and plenty in the way of co-op challenge.

Finals Fantasy Crystal Chronicles will be getting the full remaster treatment, though as of yet, there’s no indication whether it’s a straight visual upgrade (the game was beautiful anyway) or whether there will be any additions in terms of content. Either way, we’ll happily take a straight high-res port regardless.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Switch comes out next year. Oh, and PS4 too.

During last night’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that not one, not two, not three, but eight Final Fantasy games are making their way to Nintendo Switch within the year, including classics such as Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.

The eight games coming to Switch are the three mentioned above, World of Final Fantasy: Maxima (which is also coming as a DLC to PS4), Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (which we knew of), Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon Everybuddy!, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD which is out right now for only £14.99, down from its usual price of £24.99.

As you can see, many of the games are coming to PS4 and Xbox One too, with the latter getting many of them seeing release for the very first time on a Microsoft console.

These Final Fantasy games are releasing between this Winter and 2019.

A new gameplay video for Kingdom Hearts III has come out of TGS 2018, and it clocks in at almost 40 minutes! The creepy doll appears around 22:50, and much of the gameplay takes place in Toy Story’s world. There is an entertaining Frozen sledding section towards the end, too.

Check the gameplay out below! The doll looks eerie with her glowing eyes, but she has a great design, and the boss battle itself looks like a bunch of fun. Final Fantasy VII vibes from the sledding, anyone?

Kingdom Hearts III releases on PS4 and Xbox One in the West on 29th January, 2018, and four days earlier across Japan and Asia.

Final Fantasy XV DLC Cancelled as Hajime Tabata Leaves Square-Enix

$

Final Fantasy XV has garnered widespread mixed response since it released back in 2016. I personally really enjoyed the game, despite its shortcomings, but I can’t deny that the post-release schedule of DLC has been somewhat insulting to those that purchased the title on day one, with a copious amount of post release DLC. However, in a slew of announcements, Square-Enix have solidly revealed the state of the title going forwards and it doesn’t look too great.

Firstly, in the least expected announcement, they confirmed the cancellation of three of the four planned Final Fantasy XV episode expansion packs. Episode Ardyn is still in development and is scheduled to release in March 2019; but the Episodes for Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis have all been canned. Furthermore, it would appear that a reported change to internal studio Luminous causing a loss of $33 million to the company can be attributed to this cancellation. Luminous have been confirmed to be moving to focus on a new AAA title, but there hasn’t been an announcement at present as to what that might be.

Secondly, Square-Enix confirmed that the director of Final Fantasy XV, Hajime Tabata left the company on October 31st. Tabata himself has confirmed that he is leaving to form his own company to find his ‘next challenge after FFXV’. He has also wished all of the staff from Square-Enix and Luminous Productions the best, stating that he will cheer them on together with fans, thanking the fans for their support of the game.

Episode Ardyn remains in development for release in March 2019

As other news related to the game itself, the company announced that the Comrades multiplayer DLC will be released as a standalone title on December 13th called FFXV: Multiplayer Comrades, featuring more costumes, weapons and bosses. If you have already purchased Comrades (like I have), you will receive the new edition for free. Also, there will be a crossover event with Final Fantasy XIV Online on December 12th called “Adventurer From Another World” in Final Fantasy XV.

Finally, there is a final short-form anime called Final Fantasy XV Episode Prologue on the way, which I’m intrigued by because I loved the other anime revolving around this game. So, there are a lot of things still happening with Final Fantasy XV despite this considerable shake-up with the future development of the title. But what do you think? What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy XV and the Episodes DLC? Let us know in the comments, or on Twitter, and check back for more coverage of this game, and other Japanese titles!

Square-Enix announces Shadowbringers expansion for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

After an initially lukewarm launch, FINAL FANTASY XIV Online has seen a huge boom since the reset of the game with A Realm Reborn in 2013. With the current player base exceeding 14 million registered players, it’s undeniably an ongoing success. To continue this success, Square-Enix announced Shadowbringers last week, the third expansion for the MMO that will take players on new adventures to battle against the threats to the realm as they become Warriors of Darkness in early summer 2019.

Shadowbringers made its debut during the Fan Festival 2018 in Las Vegas, as Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida presented a stunning trailer which set the stage for the beginning of this next chapter in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Online epic. The new expansion will bring an abundance of new content, including a new player race, multiple new jobs, an increased level cap up, sprawling new areas, adjustments to the battle system, as well as a variety of new battle, crafter and gatherer content.

In addition to these core features, a number of new systems will be introduced with Shadowbringers:

  • NPC “Trust” System – Players will now be able to fight alongside familiar NPCs.
  • New Game+ Feature – A feature that allows players to “replay” the FINAL FANTASY XIV main scenario stories.
  • World Visit System – Players will be able to travel to other servers on the same data center and interact with more players than ever before.

As a surprise announcement at the event, Yoshida also revealed the addition of blue mage to FINAL FANTASY XIV Online at the release of Patch 4.5. Blue mage will be available to all players that own A Realm Reborn, have reached level 50 as a Disciple of War or Magic, and have completed the 2.0 main scenario. Taking inspiration from previous FINAL FANTASY titles, the blue mage job will provide a unique solo gameplay experience in which players will learn monster actions and advance through blue mage-specific content. Blue mage will begin with a level cap of 50, and increase in the future with the addition of new content for the job.

More information on Shadowbringers will be shared at the Paris Fan Festival event on 2nd – 3rd February, 2019, as well as during the Tokyo Fan Festival, scheduled for 23rd – 24th March, 2019. All Fan Festival events will be streamed free of charge on the official FINAL FANTASY XIV Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/finalfantasyxiv; so if you’re interested, make sure you keep and eye on that Twitch channel.

I’ve become greatly addicted to mobile titles in the last year, going all in with Fire Emblem Heroes, STAR OCEAN ANAMNESIS, and even becoming a late-comer to Pokémon GO!. One that I haven’t played yet is FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS, which might have to change now that Square-Enix have announced that Sora and Cloud from Kingdom Hearts will be joining in.

That’s right, the hit mobile RPG with more than 35 million players worldwide, is celebrating the highly anticipated launch of KINGDOM HEARTS III with an exciting limited-time event featuring fan-favourite characters from the beloved series. So from now until January 11th 2019, players can obtain Sora and Cloud from the original KINGDOM HEARTS game through a new featured summon.

Players seeking a challenge can face formidable foes and earn even more magical prizes during the Guard Armor raid event. In addition, players will have the opportunity to face off in a boss battle against Darkside to earn generous rewards.

Coming as the new Alliance Raids with the 5.0 update for the hugely popular MMO, YoRHa Dark Alliance is being made with the assistance of two guest creators, Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro.

Yosuke Saito you might know as an Executive Producer at Square-Enix, with NieR Replicant/Gestalt, Dragon Quest XI and NieR: Automata under his belt. Yoko Taro you definitely all likely know, being behind the incredible NieR titles.

Outside of an incredible key art image (in the featured image and below), and an incredibly funny video message from the creators, we weren’t told any more information about this upcoming addition, but were promised more information soon that we will cover as soon as we know.

This is an incredible announcement that will likely see many players return to the game, and has me (as a player myself) very excited for how this scenario will play out and how it will gel with the universe already established in game.

Information About Male Viera Teased For Tokyo Fan Fest

As reported earlier, at the FINAL FANTASY XIV Fan Fest, today Naoki Yoshida today revealed the new race, the Viera. But a lot of people were wondering why there were no male Viera represented in the promotional material or trailer.

In a press conference, Yoshida was asked whether this was going to continue to be the case or whether male Viera would be coming with the 5.0 update to the popular MMO. However, he refused to comment on this matter, teasing that this would be revealed at the Tokyo Fan Fest on March 23rd-24th 2019 (he even did a motion zipping his mouth).

You might remember the Viera from FINAL FANTASY XII, with the fantastic Fran being a playable party member for the journey. Although male Viera were mentioned in the lore of the world, they were not seen. The same has been the case for the Viera that have appeared in the world of Eorzea so far as well.

The wait for this is like torture! What do you think about this new race for FINAL FANTASY XIV? Will you be changing to a Viera when the new race arrives with the update?

Also during the Letter from the Producer LIVE, Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida revealed what FINAL FANTASY XIV Online players can expect in the coming months as the Stormblood™ expansion reaches its conclusion.

The upcoming patch schedule is:
